The ultra wide-angle focal length of 16mm makes it possible to take selfies with multiple people and to shoot indoors where shooting space is limited. It also achieves a minimum focusing distance of 0.13 m and a maximum magnification* of 0.26x. This allows users to enjoy expressions such as enlarging the subject while emphasizing the sense of perspective with the background.

*The ratio of the actual size of the subject to the size of the image captured by the image sensor. If the shooting magnification is equal, the subject can be transferred to the image sensor at the full-size image (1.0x).

Taking advantage of the large aperture and short back focus* that characterize the EOS R system, the 7-group, 9-element optical design places the large-aperture lens close to the image sensor surface, achieving both high image quality and a compact, lightweight design.
