Product Features
- An FX-format compatible 3.5x standard zoom lens that covers a frequently used range of angles of view, from wide-angle to telephoto.
- Despite its lightweight and compact body weighing approximately 465g, the sensor in the lens detects camera shake and drives a portion of the optical system in a direction that cancels out the blur to reduce blurring of the image. The camera employs Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization (VRII), which is highly effective in reducing blurring. The effect is as large as 4 stops from the photographer's own camera shake limit shutter speed, effectively reducing camera shake.
- The SWM (Silent Wave Motor = ultrasonic motor) for AF drive converts traveling waves into rotational energy to drive the focus optics, enabling smooth and quiet autofocusing.
- ED lenses are made of ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass, which reduces the effects of prisms on color separation, and have low dispersion and abnormal partial dispersion like fluorite, a crystalline material. ED lenses effectively reduce color blurring that occurs as a result of focal distance shift.
- The IF method, in which only the middle lens group is moved to focus, reduces aberration fluctuations caused by focusing, and the lens drive torque is light, so there is no change in the retention balance during focusing.
- Two focus modes are provided: "M/A" (manual priority autofocus) mode and "M" (manual focus) mode.
