Product Features
A completely new 35mm wide-angle lens with a built-in image stabilizer and a minimum focusing distance of 0.2m.
The lens clearly captures the subject with natural perspective expression from close-up to all shooting distances.
For wide-angle enthusiasts, this lens is also ideal as a slightly wider "standard" lens.
It can also be used as a standard lens equivalent to 54mm on APS-C cameras.
- Extremely high image rendering performance is achieved from a maximum aperture of F/1.8 by thoroughly correcting aberrations through the use of various glass materials.
The lens consists of 10 elements in 9 groups, including 2 GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses, 1 LD (Low Dispersion) lens, and 1 XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens. 2 GM lenses are used to correct image plane curvature and ensure flatness, while spherical and coma aberrations are corrected. The lens also corrects spherical aberration and coma aberration to achieve excellent image formation performance that allows dots to be represented as dots. Stable resolution is achieved across the entire image range. In particular, the lens suppresses sagittal coma flare (an aberration in which the image of a point light source at the periphery of the image is not formed as a point), which is particularly noticeable when shooting night scenes.
In addition, one LD lens and one XLD lens with even higher correction effect are employed. This lens is designed to correct chromatic aberrations that tend to occur with large-aperture lenses, enabling clear images with minimal color blurring.
- Full-size compatible 35mm focal length lens with a maximum aperture of 1.8 and VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization mechanism
The maximum aperture was set at F/1.8 to achieve high optical performance, shorten the minimum focusing distance, incorporate an image stabilization mechanism, and create a lens of an easy-to-handle size.
Through extensive simulations during the design stage, we were able to achieve both the resolution appropriate for a large-aperture lens for full-frame cameras and a beautifully smooth bokeh effect.
VC (Vibration Compensation), an image stabilization mechanism that is indispensable in this age of high pixel counts, suppresses camera shake that tends to occur when shooting hand-held in low light conditions, such as at dusk or in dimly lit rooms, dramatically increasing the degree of freedom of hand-held photography. In addition, it suppresses the fine blurring that can easily become noticeable with high-resolution cameras and degrade image quality, maximizing the high performance of the camera and lens.
- Minimum shooting distance of 0.2 m. Best-in-class* close-up shooting capability
With a minimum focusing distance of 0.2 m and a magnification ratio of 1:2.5, this lens boasts the best-in-class* close-up shooting capability for a full-size large-aperture single-focal length lens. This lens allows the photographer to get as close to the subject as a macro lens, and the bright f-stop enables close-up shots with a large bokeh effect for a wide range of photographic expression. In addition, the "floating system" maintains high optical performance at all shooting distances by moving a specific lens group to the optimum position in response to changes in shooting distance during focusing. The lens delivers high descriptive performance over the entire shooting range, from close-up to full-frame.
*As of August 2015, the current 35mm single focal length AF lenses for 35mm-format full-frame digital SLR cameras (excluding macro lenses. Tamron research)
- Ideal peripheral light intensity
Despite being a large-aperture lens, which tends to degrade peripheral light intensity, Tamron's superior optical design ensures abundant peripheral light intensity. The lens provides abundant light distribution throughout the entire image, even with the aperture wide open, allowing the photographer to enjoy more open expression.
- eBAND coating thoroughly reduces ghosting and flare
The eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating and the BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating, both of which provide excellent anti-reflection performance, are installed on the most suitable elements. Reflections that cause ghosting and flare are suppressed to the utmost limit, resulting in clear, crisp images. The eBAND coating, which combines a nanostructured film with an ultra-low refractive index and conventional multi-coating technology, effectively suppresses reflections of light coming in from oblique angles, which are particularly difficult to minimize.
- High-speed AF with "USD" ultrasonic motor
The "USD" (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type ultrasonic motor is equipped for speedy focusing with high torque and high response, and its operation is characterized by its extremely low noise level and quiet operation because it converts ultrasonic vibration into rotational force. The full-time manual mechanism allows fine adjustment of focus in MF mode without switching the focus switch, even when shooting in AF mode.
- Adobe Silkypix Software Compatible
SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.0, which corrects each aberration (chromatic aberration, distortion, and vignetting) based on the lens optical data, is included; RAW development allows for even more precise, high-quality image adjustment as needed.
- Equipped with a smudge-proof coating that excels in water and oil repellency
- Simplified drip-proof construction for outdoor shooting
- Circular aperture with 9 blades
