The lens is a single focal length lens that combines Tamron's technologies to achieve the ultimate in resolution, point image reproduction performance, and bokeh effect.

- Ultra-high image quality that covers the entire screen

The lens is composed of 14 elements in 10 groups. The optical system, designed with Tamron's top-of-the-line technology, is composed of four special LD (Low Dispersion) lenses and three GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses in an optimally balanced configuration. This has succeeded in minimizing chromatic aberration, which is a particular problem with large-aperture lenses, as well as other aberrations that can degrade image quality. Even at the maximum aperture of F/1.4, the lens ensures high resolution from the center to the four corners of the image, and achieves the ideal ultra-high image quality in which "dots appear as dots" without losing their shape. This superb optical performance is also reflected in the bokeh effect, which is a unique expression that brings the subject into sharp relief in a large, beautiful, and captivating background bokeh.

Tamron has further advanced its research into coating technology, which it has cultivated over many years, and has adopted the newly developed BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) coating for this lens. The new BBAR-G2 coating significantly surpasses the performance of the well-proven BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating and minimizes ghosting and flare to the utmost limit, while providing overwhelmingly clear and crisp expression. The new lens is also more reliable, faster, more precise, and more compact than the previous model.

- High-speed, high-precision AF with outstanding reliability

Tamron's proprietary ultrasonic motor USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) is used for AF drive. This enables the focusing system of a large-diameter lens, which is inevitably large and heavy, to operate with high speed, high precision, and quiet operation. In addition, the dynamic rolling cam mechanism, newly developed for this lens, has succeeded in reducing the drive load on the focus lens to the utmost limit. This mechanism has improved reliability by realizing stable AF operation performance even under the severe shooting conditions of professional use, such as high or low temperatures. In addition, the lens is equipped with a full-time manual mechanism that allows manual fine-tuning of the focus position even during AF setting.

- Equipped with a highly durable anti-fouling coating with greatly improved wear durability

The frontmost surface of the objective lens is coated with a newly developed highly durable antifouling coating. Compared to conventional antifouling coatings, the wear durability has been greatly improved. The coating is made of a fluorine compound with excellent water and oil repellency, which prevents dust, water droplets, and hand grease, which can cause stains and scratches on the lens, from remaining on the lens, and even if they do, they are easy to wipe off, making maintenance easier. This makes it easy to wipe off and maintain the lens.
