- Classic angle of view with the latest lens design
The 28mm focal length has been a representative wide-angle lens since the days of film photography, and it is still a popular angle of view for many photographers today. For this reason, we have received many requests to realize this 28mm angle of view in the quality of the Art line. In response to these requests, the development of this lens was started, and based on the know-how of the previous Art F1.4 single focal length lenses, the latest design, materials, and processing technologies were fully applied.

- Highest performance in its class
Two FLD glass elements and three SLD glass elements are used. Furthermore, three aspherical lens elements, including a large-aperture aspherical lens, are effectively positioned to thoroughly correct lateral chromatic aberration, which is a particular concern with wide-angle lenses. In addition to achieving high resolution all the way to the periphery of the image, sagittal coma flare has been thoroughly corrected and distortion has also been adequately corrected. The lens offers the best performance for a wide variety of subjects, including landscapes, snapshots, and starry field photography.

- Designed for use in any environment
The lens is dustproof and drip-proof, with a water- and stain-repellent coating on the frontmost surface of the lens and sealing in various areas, demonstrating its ability to withstand even the harshest shooting environments. The high-speed AF of the ultrasonic motor HSM, which uses the latest algorithms, responds to instantaneous shutter release opportunities.

- Water and stain repellent coating
The front and rear lens surfaces are coated with a water and stain repellent coating that easily wipes away water droplets and prevents the adhesion of oil and grease. This coating helps ensure comfortable use in harsh conditions and facilitates maintenance of the lens surfaces.

- Dustproof and drip-proof construction
Responds to the harsh shooting conditions of professionals. The mount joint, manual ring, zoom ring, custom switches and other control switches, switch panel, and exterior joints are dustproof and drip-proof to prevent dust and debris from entering.

- High-speed AF
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) delivers faster and quieter AF speeds.

- Adoption of a hood with a lock switch
A hood with a lock switch is adopted to prevent accidental detachment.

- Equipped with Manual Override MO (Manual Override)
Manual focus can be switched to manual focus by rotating the focusing ring even during continuous AF.

- Flare and ghosting are considered when designing the lens.
Thorough measures against flare and ghosting were taken from the initial stage of lens design, and the lens is designed to be less susceptible to strong incident light such as backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high-contrast images even when shooting in backlit conditions. The included floral hood effectively cuts out harmful light that can adversely affect the lens's rendering and prevents internal reflections.

The 9-blade circular aperture allows the photographer to enjoy a circular bokeh effect near the maximum aperture.
